Elon Musk’s super PAC revealed on Wednesday that it expended over $800,000 last month to aid Republican Senate and House candidates in key races. The focus was primarily on Texas and Maine, where Republicans are defending Senate seats.
America PAC’s spending in August marks the beginning of significant contributions from the wealthiest individual globally. Musk had previously invested hundreds of millions of dollars backing President Trump and other Republicans in 2024. Reports from The New York Times indicate that Musk authorized his super PAC to spend over $100 million to support Republicans in the upcoming November elections.
The disclosed August expenditures target nearly all anticipated competitive Senate contests. The figures include:
- Texas: $247,595
- Maine: $170,224.29
- Ohio: $105,675
- New Hampshire: $91,458.50
- Iowa: $54,600
- Michigan: $25,605
- Alaska: $17,235
Additionally, Republican incumbents and candidates in competitive House districts located in Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin benefited from America PAC’s spending.
House Speaker Mike Johnson acknowledged his meeting with Musk during a campaign tour in Texas, which includes various contested House districts and a crucial Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico. He did not confirm whether discussions included campaign funding for Republicans in the midterms.
“He’s made public a lot of what he’s doing. I’m going to talk about our conversation on that point, but we’re gonna win the midterms,” said Johnson.
The expenditure disclosures on Wednesday were classified under “PRINTING,” suggesting use for mail advertising. Chris Young, a GOP operative and Musk’s former employee at the Department of Government Efficiency, oversaw this spending. Musk appointed Young in 2024 to manage America PAC and coordinate spending strategies.
America PAC also invested over $207,000 in digital advertising across Texas, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Maine. According to AdImpact and Facebook ad library records, these ads primarily encouraged voter participation. One ad warned against socialism’s victory in New York City, stressing the importance of voting in November.
In the 2024 election cycle, America PAC allocated over $239 million to benefit Republican candidates. As the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Musk emerged as the largest donor for either party that year, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
During an interview last year, Musk commented on future political spending: “I think in terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future. I think I’ve done enough,” he remarked.
