DALLAS — Dusty May, coach of Michigan’s national champion Wolverines, is in the process of transitioning to the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks. A person close to the negotiations revealed the development under anonymity, as the agreement has not been finalized yet.
May was pivotal in Michigan’s triumph, clinching the NCAA championship against UConn with a 69-63 victory after an impressive 34-3 season. Notably, Michigan set a record by scoring at least 90 points in five straight tournament games, reflecting unparalleled offensive prowess.
Before his role at Michigan, May made waves at Florida Atlantic, leading the team to its first Final Four appearance three years prior. His coaching success continued as the Owls returned to the NCAA tournament in 2024, securing his position at Michigan.
At the Mavericks, May will replace Jason Kidd, who was dismissed following Masai Ujiri’s appointment as president of basketball operations and alternate governor. May’s anticipated move to the NBA marks a significant career shift after years at the collegiate level.
