A serious incident occurred in Jacksonville, North Carolina, involving a DoorDash delivery driver, Christen Phillips, who suffered multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds. The mother of three was delivering food when she was assaulted with a baseball bat.
The accused, Stanley Shockley, 44, is in custody. The attack happened as Phillips was making a delivery in daylight. According to reports, the suspect followed her car after a honk and struck her when she exited her vehicle.
The incident began on August 1, when Phillips honked at a car in front of her at an intersection. Shockley, allegedly behind the wheel, started following Phillips’ vehicle after she sounded the horn.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office noted, “The vehicle moved out of her way and began following her.”
Once Phillips reached the drop-off point, Shockley allegedly attacked her with a bat before fleeing. Despite the severe injuries, Phillips drove herself to a local hospital for treatment.
In a social media statement, Phillips described the attack, saying, “He came around to my door with a small wooden bat or baton and beat me in the head and face with it.” She has undergone several surgeries due to the injuries.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Shockley’s arrest related to the incident. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Sheriff Chris Thomas stated, “Our detectives follow every lead, carefully work through the evidence, and continue to pursue answers even when the investigation presents challenges.”
