The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced adjustments to travel rules for Iran’s national soccer team ahead of their World Cup group-stage match against Egypt in Seattle. A DHS spokesperson stated that “Team Melli” will be permitted to enter the U.S. from their base camp in Tijuana, Mexico, two days before the match, which is scheduled for Friday, June 26. This change provides the team with an additional day for preparation compared to previous games.
Despite the modification, the team will need to depart immediately after the conclusion of the match. The decision is primarily driven by concerns over pitch safety amid ongoing diplomatic tensions and visa denials affecting key team personnel.
The revision introduces further complexity to the team’s logistical challenges, as they have encountered several visa rejections, strict border crossings, and unexpected security updates since starting their training camp in Mexico.
This situation remains dynamic, with more updates expected as developments occur.
