Democratic Women’s Caucus Unveils Economic Agenda

The Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) has released a comprehensive list of policy priorities for the upcoming Congress. With a focus on regaining control of both chambers, the agenda outlines eight key pillars under which multiple pieces of legislation and resolutions have been introduced.

The agenda focuses on areas such as affordable care, fair taxes for women and families, and access to education. Under these pillars, over sixty bills have been introduced. These range from promoting homeownership to addressing price gouging by grocery stores.

One prominent proposal comes from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), pushing for federal investment in a network of local childcare centers and family care homes. Additionally, Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) is advocating for a $2,000 tax credit for adults caring for older family members, while Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.) proposes that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program cover hot food purchases.

DWC Chair Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) has criticized the GOP-backed One Big Beautiful Act, highlighting her caucus’s vision for a financial future prioritizing mothers and working families.

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows women’s earnings stood at 83.6 percent of men’s in 2023, with female unemployment at 3.9 percent compared to 4.4 percent for men.

President Trump has pledged a $5,000 dividend to every American adult if Republicans retain Congressional control.

In response, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) has included her dividend proposals in the DWC’s agenda, suggesting $250 per month for adults aged 19 to 67, alongside a $2,000 “baby bonus” for new families.

Tlaib emphasizes the importance of economic resources for women, children, and families, condemning the impact of corporate greed on livelihoods.
