David Beamer, father of Todd Beamer, a passenger on United Flight 93 during the September 11, 2001 attacks, expressed criticism towards streamer Hasan Piker and his connection to Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. This criticism was shared in a campaign video released for El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, Mike Rogers. The Great Lakes Conservative Fund, a super PAC supporting Rogers, produced this video.
The video included a 2019 clip of Piker stating that America “deserved 9/11,” followed by scenes of El-Sayed on Piker’s Twitch livestream and instances where El-Sayed did not disavow Piker. Narrating the ad, Beamer introduced his son Todd, commending him as a hero who fought against terrorists.
“Those 43 people on Flight 93 were not victims. They were killed in action. When I hear anyone suggest America ‘deserves 9/11,’ my question is, ‘Who would say that?’” Beamer questioned in the ad.
El-Sayed has distanced himself from Piker’s statements but has not fully renounced the streamer, who supported him during the Democratic primary. Elizabeth Pipko, a former Republican National Committee spokesperson, commented on this issue.
“How incredibly disappointing that, 25 years after those horrific attacks, Todd Beamer’s family is still unable to simply mourn their son. Instead, they must protect their loved ones’ legacies,” Pipko conveyed to Fox News Digital.
Pipko further highlighted Todd Beamer’s embodiment of American spirit and encouraged voters to reflect on his character when choosing leaders.
Theo Wold, a former assistant attorney general, remarked that Piker remains an issue for El-Sayed’s campaign until he denounces Piker completely.
“Antifa Democrats and their allies often make dangerous statements. Hasan Piker, who supports political violence, has campaigned with El-Sayed,” Wold pointed out.
Fox News Digital reached out to representatives of Gold Star Families, El-Sayed’s campaign, and Mike Rogers’ campaign but did not receive immediate comments.
