Dallas Cowboys Explore Options for Defensive Enhancement

The Dallas Cowboys, with a current standing of 3-4, trail the New York Giants, who hold a 4-2-1 record in the NFC East. Despite a recent 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys are regarded as the second-best team in their division. However, their roster still lacks a championship edge.

Offensively, Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams, and CeeDee Lamb have been performing admirably. Yet, the team seems to lack a pivotal defensive force crucial for playoff success. Rumors suggest that the Cowboys, along with owner Jerry Jones, are keenly searching the trade market for a game-changing player.

Russell Wilson, former NFL quarterback and current CBS Sports analyst, has shared his insights on where Jones might start his search. Wilson stated, “If you’re Jerry, definitely make some trades. You have to consider who can bring a significant impact. It could be an edge pass-rusher, like Maxx Crosby. Jerry is known for not hesitating to spend, so if I were managing the Cowboys, I’d be persistent.”

The Raiders aren’t progressing, so the dilemma is who will make the move for Maxx Crosby?

Additionally, there were discussions earlier about the Cowboys’ interest in acquiring Crosby during the offseason. The Baltimore Ravens had initially reached an agreement with the Raiders to exchange two first-round picks for the Pro Bowl pass-rusher. However, this deal fell through allegedly due to Crosby failing a physical, although some suspect the Ravens backed out due to second thoughts.

Currently, the 3-4 Raiders are behind the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, which has led some analysts to speculate that the team might start trading players to accumulate draft picks ahead of the 2027 draft. For Dallas, obtaining a pass-rusher to boost their Super Bowl prospects could justify trading away first- and second-round picks. However, with the Cowboys already having traded their 2027 first-round pick in the Quinnen Williams trade last year, the cost to acquire Crosby might prove prohibitive.
