Recently, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley shared his experience with a distressing stomach bug that affected him during the offseason. Ridley attributes this unfortunate incident to a meal from a popular fast-casual restaurant known for its burritos and burrito bowls.
In a conversation with reporters, Ridley discussed how the 24-hour bug impacted him. He mentioned experiencing similar bouts three or four times in his life, each being quite debilitating. This particular encounter caused him to lose around 15 pounds within a single day.
Ridley described the experience saying, “It’s like a 24-hour thing, but it really puts you down pretty good.”
During the interview, Ridley dispelled any associations with the Cyclospora incidents linked to lettuce. He specifically identified “Chipotle” as the source of his meal, but clarified no direct connection with the Cyclospora outbreak.
It’s vital to note that the restaurant in question has not been associated with any Cyclospora cases. Ridley himself has recovered, but his situation highlights a common misconception about Mexican food. Many associate it with causing stomach issues unfairly, without concrete evidence.
When people experience upset stomachs, they often blame meals like those from Mexican restaurants. It’s important to remember that different cuisines affect individuals differently. For those who are concerned about potential discomfort, opting for milder foods might be a safer choice.
