Caitlin Clark showed visible distress during the postgame press conference following the Indiana Fever’s 113-96 defeat to the Atlanta Dream and their star player Angel Reese. Head lowered, Clark somberly discussed her team’s collapse in the second half, attributing it to excessive fouls. The Fever were charged with 29 personal fouls.
“What we did well in the first half was play in transition and find open players. It’s really hard to maintain that when we’re fouling constantly and they keep scoring,” Clark explained.
Clark, positioned as a key player, made seven of the team’s 19 turnovers during the match. “We need to manage the ball better, and I take responsibility for that,” she acknowledged.
During the game, Clark appeared frustrated, even rolling her eyes while Coach White addressed her. This moment quickly spread across social media.
Coach White addressed the foul issue, suggesting it may be influenced by the way referees enforce calls. “There’s clearly an emphasis on calling more fouls. While some are fixable mistakes, we need to adapt to offer better support among teammates,” he stated.
In a notable moment, Clark was fouled by Jordin Canada in the first quarter. Following this, Reese swiped at the ball in Clark’s hands, prompting a visible reaction from Clark. This occurred shortly after Clark successfully made a 3-point shot against Reese.
This game represented the second consecutive loss for the Fever against Reese’s Dream, having been defeated earlier in Indiana with a score of 108-101. Currently, the Fever hold a 9-7 record, underperforming compared to preseason expectations.
Clark concluded the game with 26 points, three rebounds, and seven assists. In contrast, Reese achieved her 1,000th career rebound in her 79th game, a WNBA record.
The Atlanta Dream leads the Eastern Conference with an 11-4 standing.
