Burlington Central’s Reece Beemer’s Effective Performance in Playoff Victory

Burlington Central junior quarterback Reece Beemer stands out with his throwing ability even though his team prioritizes running plays. At 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, Beemer recognizes his team, the Rockets, leans towards a ground game. He embraces his role, focusing on maximizing passing opportunities.

“I know we’re a run-heavy team,” Beemer stated. “My job is to rely on my running backs and linemen. When a pass is called, I ensure it’s executed. Flashiness isn’t my goal.”

During a Class 6A opening-round playoff match against Rockford East, Beemer delivered efficiently with 6 completions out of 7 attempts, accumulating 105 passing yards. This performance included a 49-yard touchdown pass to Wagner Viebrock. The starters, including Beemer, exited the game in the second half, having established a solid lead. Burlington Central triumphed 41-10, advancing their record to 7-3, and now prepares to face Lake Zurich.

Parker Auxier’s speed propelled the team early with an 80-yard touchdown on the first play. Auxier accumulated 116 yards and two touchdowns from just five carries. Paco Acevedo, Ben Atieh, and RJ Perez also contributed rushing touchdowns, securing a decisive victory over Rockford East (2-8).

Beemer’s passing was crucial on the Rockets’ second drive. Completing all four attempts, he connected with four different receivers and achieved a 49-yard touchdown pass with a screen play involving Viebrock. Coach Brian Iossi praised Beemer’s performance, emphasizing the need for a quarterback who fits the team’s run-focused identity.

Burlington Central coach Brian Iossi remarked, “We need him to be efficient. Around 115 yards and a couple of touchdowns per game are our targets, and he’s meeting those expectations.”

Sam Ames, a teammate, acknowledged Beemer’s development both as a leader and a player. “He’s shown command in the huddle and has grown noticeably from the start of the season. Everyone acknowledges his talent. His ability to throw the ball effectively is evident.”

Burlington Central’s quarterback position has been stable since Iossi’s tenure began five years ago. The quarterbacks before Beemer, like Jackson Alcorn and Landon Arnold, have set high standards. Beemer earned the starting position by outperforming Ashton Binz during summer tryouts.

Reflecting on the competition, Iossi said, “Ashton competed strongly. He had an impressive JV season, and nothing is certain for next year.”

Beemer acknowledges Binz’s competitive spirit keeps him focused. “Ashton offers great competition,” Beemer mentioned. “He motivates me to remain at my best.”

According to Iossi, the current experience is invaluable for Beemer and Binz’s future. “A playoff win is fantastic for their development.”

Beemer, having learned from his experience as a backup last season, now embraces his leadership responsibility. This past experience eased his transition into the role as they prepare for the upcoming game against Lake Zurich.

“Last season taught me to maintain clear thinking,” Beemer shared. “Composure greatly influences my performance.”
