Boy Throb, a viral boy band with roots in TikTok, strives to be recognized beyond online platforms. Their quest involves convincing U.S. immigration officials, alongside their fans, of their legitimacy. Band members Evan Papier, Anthony Key, and Zachary Sobania emphasized the seriousness of their goal to bring fellow member Darshan Magdum from India to the U.S. in conversations with Fox News Digital.
The band, amassing 1.3 million followers on TikTok and 916,000 on Instagram, aims for a Grammy. Their social media includes song covers and original tracks, coupled with immigration updates set to music. The members often wear pink tracksuits and yellow sneakers, while Magdum features via green screen.
The goal is to prove that Boy Throb is a genuine outfit capable of real-world performances. Recently, they faced a challenge when Magdum’s O-1 visa application required additional evidence.
To support their case, Boy Throb created “Throbchella presented by Air,” a live show at Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom, seeking to demonstrate their musical credibility. Fans, known as “throbbers,” filled the venue, indicating strong support. Papier highlighted the need for further evidence of their band’s authenticity.
The O-1 visa suits individuals with exceptional skill in fields like arts or athletics, as outlined by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Fox News Digital contacted USCIS for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
Besides USCIS, the band seeks validation from skeptical fans. Some on Reddit and social media suggest Boy Throb might be supported by industry professionals like Anthony Po or Nathan Fielder. Sobania expressed how such rumors challenge their quest for official recognition.
Key feels speculation is offensive yet acknowledges its inevitability. Papier stressed the group’s authenticity, visible through their performances and commitment.
As Magdum’s potential arrival nears, the band contemplates the future dynamic. While Papier anticipates an adjustment period, he believes they will adapt and thrive. Key emphasized their bond with Magdum, recognizing him as a crucial member despite not meeting face-to-face.
