Gates’ Official Statement
“Mr. Chairman, Ranking Member, Members of the Committee, thank you for the opportunity to discuss my interactions with Jeffrey Epstein. I support the release of all Epstein files and hope survivors receive justice.
I never witnessed Epstein’s ongoing criminal conduct, nor did I visit his properties. In 2011, I was introduced to Epstein through professional channels, underestimating his legal issues. My primary focus was global health and education, necessitating collaborations with wealthy donors.
From 2011 to 2014, my interactions with Epstein focused on philanthropic discussions, which led to no actual donations. Our last communication was in December 2014, before new reports exposed his crimes.
An ex-employee, transitioning from my office, involved Epstein in negotiating terms. Although this caused limited communication, no new results arose from Epstein’s involvement.
Epstein attempted to use personal information against me to rebuild his relationship, which he was unable to do. These interactions taught me a valuable lesson in safeguarding reputation amidst philanthropic goals.
I regret meeting Epstein, a decision driven by a desire to foster global health contributions. My conscience demands greater diligence in future collaborations.
I await your inquiries regarding these engagements and Epstein-related documents.
Your task is vital for justice. Thank you.”
