Atlanta Dream’s Winning Streak and Future Prospects

The Atlanta Dream extended their winning streak to four games with a recent victory against the Toronto Tempo. This run began on June 14, with a significant 102-77 win in Toronto. Following that game, Atlanta secured two wins against the Indiana Fever. The first was a close 108-101 victory in Atlanta, and the second was a commanding 113-96 win, marking a franchise record for scoring.

Key players contributed to these wins. Rhyne Howard scored 24 points, Allisha Gray added 22, and Naz Hillmon chipped in with 19. Jordin Canada nearly achieved a double-double, recording 12 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds. Angel Reese also made a strong impact with 18 points and eight rebounds, setting a WNBA record by becoming the fastest player to reach 1,000 career rebounds. Atlanta now holds an 11-4 record, leading the Eastern Conference with a .733 winning percentage, second only to the Minnesota Lynx’s 13-4 record in the league.

Despite this strong performance, Reese hinted at more potential for improvement. Speaking with SportsCenter’s Keiana Martin, Reese expressed excitement about the team’s future, particularly with Brionna Jones yet to return after recovering from a knee injury. Reese highlighted the strength of the team, noting all five starters are averaging double figures, and emphasized the strong performance of their bench and the support from their fans.

Atlanta has already defeated several strong teams this season, including the top-seeded Lynx, Dallas Wings, and Indiana Fever, demonstrating their playoff potential. They also beat teams like the Tempo, Portland Fire, and Washington Mystics, all considered playoff-caliber. The team’s performance is even more impressive given that Brionna Jones, a four-time WNBA All-Star, has not yet played this season due to a torn meniscus.

Angel Reese, noted for her prowess as a rebounder, continues to excel in Atlanta. She currently averages a career-high 15.3 points, along with a league-leading 11.9 rebounds per game. If Atlanta maintains its momentum and reintegrates Jones by September, they could be a formidable contender in the playoffs.
