Angel Reese’s Historic Night Leads Atlanta Dream to Victory

The Atlanta Dream showcased their prowess on Saturday, overpowering the Mystics with a commanding 109–77 win in a prominent Commissioner’s Cup game. Rhyne Howard spearheaded Atlanta’s offense with 19 points and an impressive 71% shooting from beyond the arc. She also contributed three assists and led the game with six steals. Allisha Gray supported with 15 points and five assists, excelling at the free-throw line with 12 of 15 made shots.

Angel Reese emerged as the standout performer. She equaled her season-high by scoring 18 points, while also grabbing 17 rebounds. Reese had a flawless performance from the free-throw line, going 10-for-10, and added four steals and a block to her stats. This effort propelled the Dream to a 7–3 record, the best in the Eastern Conference.

Reese’s achievements include over 50 double-doubles in her first 75 career games, a feat accomplished by only four players across both the WNBA and NBA. She is on the verge of tying Blake Griffin for the most double-doubles in this span. Reese’s milestone comes as she prepares to face the Chicago Sky, the team that traded her.

In 2025, Reese publicly expressed her discontent with the Sky’s direction. Speaking to the Chicago Tribune, she hinted at seeking better opportunities if the team’s prospects did not improve. This led to a half-game suspension for “detrimental” comments and a subsequent breakdown in relations with the team.

On April 6, 2026, the Sky traded Reese to the Atlanta Dream, acquiring two first-round picks for 2027 and 2028 in return. Dream General Manager Dan Padover praised Reese, describing her as a “dynamic talent” and ideal for Atlanta’s aspirations. In ten games, Reese has demonstrated her value to the team.

Reese’s debut with the Dream was historic, making her the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 50 career double-doubles in only 65 games, surpassing Tina Charles’s previous record of 75 games. She stands near the top of the all-time list for first-75-games double-doubles, trailing only Blake Griffin.
