Coach Grant Bell describes Andrean outside hitter Aleece Ehler’s freshman season as a challenging experience. “It was trial by fire,” Bell stated. Ehler was quickly thrust into intense playing conditions, which helped her to develop resilience. Last year, her adaptability was evident. This year, the focus is on her leadership and vocal presence on the court.
Ehler’s Impressive Freshman Year
During her freshman year, Ehler accomplished significant feats. She recorded 298 digs, 196 kills, and 57 aces for Andrean. Her performance earned her spots on the All-Northwest Crossroads Conference and all-district teams. With key players graduating, Ehler’s role has increased this season. She aims high for her growth, balancing progress with enjoying the game.
“Work hard, play hard, do your best and just have fun,” Ehler emphasized. “Uplifting teammates and staying positive are crucial.”
This mindset has been key for Ehler’s progress, especially in Andrean’s fast-paced program.
Family Influence and Early Love for Volleyball
Ehler’s volleyball journey began early. Before playing at nine, volleyball surrounded her life. “Two of my cousins played,” she shared. Her cousins, Molly and Trevor Prisby, played for Andrean, leaving a significant legacy. Trevor ended his career with impressive stats, setting a high standard Ehler looks to surpass.
Coach Bell believes Ehler is ready for collegiate volleyball. “Where she ends up depends on the next couple of years,” he explained, focusing on her athletic development.
Team Leadership and Future Aspirations
Ehler’s intelligence on the court is evident. “I trust her to make decisions on offense,” noted junior middle hitter Maya Mastalski. Her decision-making will be essential as Andrean competes with teams like Hanover Central and Illiana Christian.
Ehler’s goals extend beyond high school. “I want to finish proud, knowing I loved the sport,” she said, reflecting her dedication and passion for volleyball.
