A.J. Brown’s Transition from Eagles to Patriots

A.J. Brown experienced a reunion this week when he joined the New England Patriots, hosting his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, for joint practices during training camp. After a challenging 2025 season, the Eagles traded Brown to the Patriots for future draft picks. There were indications that his relationship and on-field partnership with quarterback Jalen Hurts had deteriorated.

Although over two months have passed since Brown’s move to New England, questions about his relationship with Hurts emerged again. After the Eagles-Patriots joint practice, Brown revealed he has not spoken with Hurts since changing teams. When asked about this, Brown’s response was simple, “No,” indicating no conversation had occurred since June.

Brown maintained a positive tone about his former teammates, emphasizing the importance of reporting positive news. “Honestly guys, none of that stuff even matters,” Brown said, urging reporters to focus on positive aspects, “It’s love my way.” Hurts mirrored these sentiments, expressing his continued affection for Brown, “I’ve got a lot of love for him and always have,” he said.

During the 2025 season, Brown set impressive records with the Eagles, holding the two highest single-season receiving yardage marks in team history. Despite these achievements, Philadelphia was eliminated in the wild-card round by the San Francisco 49ers. Brown expressed a desire for a change of scenery, citing frustration with his role and belief he was not targeted enough against zone coverage.

His frustration was apparent through various social media posts and media comments throughout the season. Observations from practice sessions showed Brown engaging with former teammates Saquon Barkley and Cooper DeJean. Brown caught passes from Drake Maye during drills, although he missed out during a one-on-one with All-Pro cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.

Brown acknowledged the challenges with Maye, recognizing the quarterback’s special qualities, “There’s definitely been some challenges, but he’s very special, and he makes my job a lot easier,” Brown said, noting the ongoing development of their chemistry.

Brown appreciates Philadelphia despite moving forward with the Patriots, illustrating his lasting affection for the Eagles. “It’s love. I won a Super Bowl ring with them. It will always be love no matter how anyone feels. I love Philly and I will always love Philly, but I’m here now,” Brown explained.

Looking ahead, the Eagles start their regular season on Sept. 13 against the Washington Commanders, while the Patriots visit the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 9 to begin their 2026 season.
