Comedian Laura Clery experienced a terrifying event when a 600-pound refrigerator fell on her at home. Clery, 39 years old, shared her harrowing experience on Instagram, describing it as her ‘biggest fear come true.’ She was left seriously injured and trapped while alone with her two young children.
As she prepared for bed, the large appliance collapsed, pinning her against the counter. Clery wrote on social media, ‘I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe right. It was impossible to get off, and I could feel myself losing consciousness. My kids were in the house. I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive.’
Fortunately, her phone was accessible in her pocket, allowing her to call 911. She expressed her gratitude, saying, ‘Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911. Thank God it didn’t fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me. I’m still shaking.’
Firefighters swiftly arrived and carried out a rescue operation, which included breaking through her garage door to reach her. She praised them, noting, ‘They got there so fast, broke through my garage door, and three of them pushed a 600-pound fridge off of me and got me safely to the trauma unit before things got worse.’
Clery shared footage of her rescue, expressing her appreciation while wearing a neck brace in an ambulance. She highlighted the first responders’ actions, saying, ‘This was right after the fentanyl hit and all of my pain [went] away instantly. I just need to say thank you to these amazing firefighters who saved my life. Truly.’
Reflecting on the incident, Clery expressed gratitude for how favorably things turned out. She remarked, ‘I keep thinking about how differently this could have gone and I just feel overwhelming gratitude. No broken bones, my kids are okay and safe, I can walk… I’m so lucky! They were calm, kind and just handled everything like absolute heroes.’
