The Raiders franchise began on January 30, 1960, in Oakland, California. Initially, the Oakland Raiders joined the American Football League (AFL) as a charter member. They transitioned to the National Football League (NFL) during the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.
From 1982 to 1994, the Raiders moved to Los Angeles, becoming the Los Angeles Raiders. Before the 1995 season, they returned to Oakland and stayed there until 2020. In 2017, the NFL approved their application to relocate to Las Vegas. The team completed this move to Las Vegas in 2020.
The Raiders have secured three Super Bowl wins in their history. Their first victory came in 1976, in Super Bowl XI, under the guidance of legendary head coach John Madden. Their subsequent Super Bowl titles were won in 1980 (Super Bowl XV) and 1983 (Super Bowl XVIII), with different leadership.
The Raiders compete in the AFC West division. Their division rivals include the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers.
