Thomas Massie Supports Potential Short-Term Iran Deal Amid Economic Concerns

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., has expressed his support for a potential short-term agreement with Iran following an announcement by President Donald Trump. Trump revealed that a deal with Tehran had been largely negotiated. Massie believes that such an agreement could alleviate the economic pressures Americans are already experiencing due to ongoing conflicts.

In a segment on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’ Massie strongly advocated for the agreement, although the exact terms are yet to be disclosed. He highlighted that prominent figures like Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz had reservations about the deal. Massie, known for his criticism of U.S. military interventions abroad, linked his support to the increasing costs of fuel and farming.

‘My constituents are hurting,’ Massie stated. ‘Gas is nearing $5 per gallon, and diesel is approaching $6 per gallon. Farmers in Kentucky struggle to afford fertilizer for their fields.’

Despite recently losing his Republican primary after serving seven terms in Congress, Massie defended his political record. He argued that his approach—prioritizing constituents and principles over party lines—ultimately led to his political downfall.

Massie described his desire to work across the aisle as a factor in becoming a target for political opposition. Notably, he collaborated with Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna on issues related to the Epstein files. Massie suggested that his cooperation efforts demonstrated that bipartisan achievements are possible, which unsettled some in entrenched political circles.

‘I showed that someone from the right could work with someone from the left and accomplish something,’ Massie said. ‘That’s what led them to remove me.’

He further claimed that outside funding had a significant impact on his campaign. ‘They couldn’t purchase my vote for 14 years, so they bought this seat,’ Massie declared, noting that his was the most costly congressional primary race to date.

Massie issued a warning to Republicans about potential repercussions before upcoming midterms. He pointed out growing dissatisfaction among various factions of Trump’s political base, suggesting that alienation of key supporters might harm the party.

This discontent, Massie argued, stems from the GOP’s alliances with pesticide and pharmaceutical manufacturers, driving away those opposing further military involvement and fiscal conservatives. Moreover, he criticized congressional fights over spending unrelated to pressing economic issues.

‘We operate like a Roman Empire, overextended overseas,’ Massie remarked. ‘Our spending is irresponsible, and essential costs like gasoline, rent, and groceries are unaffordable.’

President Trump announced on Truth Social that an agreement with Iran was substantially negotiated, though no official details were available by Sunday morning. Fox News sought comments from Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Lindsey Graham but had not received responses.
