Creator Jacob Tierney revealed insights about the upcoming season of ‘Heated Rivalry’ on HBO Max. During an interview on ‘CBS Mornings’, he confirmed that the new season will debut in late spring. Although the exact date remains undisclosed, Tierney shared important details about the storyline.
The second season will delve deeper into the relationship between Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, portrayed by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie respectively. The narrative will draw heavily from ‘The Long Game’, the sixth book in Rachel Reid’s ‘Game Changers’ hockey romance series. Tierney emphasized that his focus is on the evolving relationship between these characters amid an expanded universe with new couples and intersecting characters.
Post-Season 1 Happiness
The new episodes will explore what happens after Shane and Ilya achieve a ‘quiet happiness’, examining the impact on their lives moving forward. The show continues to explore themes of intimacy and personal growth.
Intimacy as a Narrative Tool
Tierney also released a book titled, ‘I’ll Believe in Anything: The Making of Heated Rivalry Season 1′, where he gives a behind-the-scenes look at the series’ production. One of the significant aspects he discussed was the use of intimate scenes to develop characters. He aimed to ensure these scenes conveyed elements of the characters’ relationships without appearing gratuitous.
He noted that these intimate moments were essential to depict the physical connection that over time holds significant meaning for the characters, especially given their communication barriers.
Music’s Role in the Series
Tierney shared insights into the music choices for the show. He particularly spotlighted episode five of the first season, which revolved around the song ‘I’ll Believe in Anything’ by Wolf Parade. Tierney, a fan of Wolf Parade since his early 20s, values music that resonates personally and questioned why these powerful songs weren’t massive hits.
