Juror Retains Lawyer After Mistrial in Lindsay Clancy Case

The sole juror whose decision led to a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case has hired a lawyer previously associated with former President Donald Trump. This legal move indicates the juror’s readiness to defend his position.

Lindsay Clancy faced charges for the murder of her three children, aged 5, 3, and 8 months, who were found strangled at their home in January 2023. The judge declared a mistrial on September 4 after the jury could not reach a unanimous decision, ending up divided 11-1.

Attorney Edward Paltzik now represents the holdout juror, Michael P. Desronvil. Desronvil, standing alone against the rest of the jury, stated he was convinced by the prosecution’s evidence that Clancy was criminally liable for the deaths, as reported by NewsNation and confirmed by Paltzik.

Desronvil expressed his certainty in the evidence and stated he felt cut off during deliberations when trying to explore different theories. He believes the prosecution provided enough proof of Clancy’s intention in the killings.

Edward Paltzik’s Previous Legal Engagements

Paltzik has represented Trump in various legal battles. He was involved in Trump’s lawsuit against The New York Times and a case against CBS following an interview with Kamala Harris that was said to have been misleading. Moreover, Paltzik represented Trump in a lawsuit with ABC News, which resulted in a settlement directing funds to Trump’s future presidential library.

Defense of Other Clients

Apart from representing Desronvil, Paltzik is also defending three friends of Nolan Wells, who tragically died in a boating incident. False allegations against these friends were spread via social media, prompting Paltzik to confront these accusations legally.

Meanwhile, Plymouth County prosecutors are considering a retrial for Clancy. Her lawyers have proposed resolving the case without another jury trial.

Reactions and Implications

Mark Astor, a legal expert, commented on the juror’s situation. Astor suggested that Desronvil’s actions to secure legal representation reflect his need to protect his reputation. He mentioned the potential negative implications this exposure might have on the jury system and highlighted the risks of public scrutinization.

Clancy is scheduled for a status hearing on September 29, which may provide more insights into her case’s trajectory.
