In a candid conversation with Vogue, Dakota Johnson, 36, shared insights about her life and aspirations. The actress expressed a strong desire to start a family, highlighting this as a significant personal goal.
“I really do. I do, but for whatever reason, that’s the plan of the universe,” she stated. “So I would love that. I hope that that happens for me. I’ve always felt, especially the last few years, that there is a soul that wants to come through. And I hope that I’m lucky enough to be able to do that.”
Johnson acknowledged feeling a mix of emotions around friends and colleagues who have begun their own families, noting, “Things turned out differently than I thought.” Yet, she maintains hope for her future.
The actress gained prominence during the 2010s with roles in films such as “The Social Network” and “21 Jump Street.” Her breakout role was in “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Over the years, she has added films like “Peanut Butter Falcon,” “Madame Web,” and “The Materialists” to her repertoire. However, she hints at a potential career slowdown.
“I’ve worked back-to-back for so long that now I have this deep calling to shift my perspective a bit and maybe have a bit more of a real life,” she explained. “I’ve been gone for, like, 20 years. The people in my life are so used to me leaving for months at a time.” Her focus is on living authentically and embracing life fully.
Johnson is currently promoting her new movie, “Verity,” a psychological thriller adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel. The film stars Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway, with Johnson portraying Lowen Ashleigh, a ghostwriter entangled in a complex narrative.
“Michael Showalter, the director, would give me direction that was so extremely camp, and that’s not really me as an artist,” Johnson commented. “But it was so fun, and our references and guidelines were all these erotic thrillers that people are like, Okay, this is ridiculous, but I’m enjoying myself.”
Coming from a lineage of actors, Dakota Johnson is familiar with Hollywood’s demands. Her mother, Melanie Griffith, is an Academy Award-nominated actress, while her father, Don Johnson, is known for his role in “Miami Vice.” Her grandmother, Tippi Hedren, also has an acting legacy.
