Spanish Opposition Leader Labels PM a Traitor Amid Migrant Crisis

A political clash erupted in Spain over the handling of a migrant influx in Ceuta. Santiago Abascal, the leader of the Vox party, accused Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of betrayal during a parliamentary session. He questioned whether Sánchez faced blackmail from Morocco, citing the border crisis.

Abascal intensified the confrontation by calling Sánchez a “traitor” and “a dog.” In a dramatic move, he displayed letters spelling “traidor” to emphasize his point. Sánchez responded assertively, stating, “I may be a dog, but I have no master.” The exchange captured intense political tensions.

Spain has been rocked by protests linked to the migrant arrivals in Ceuta. Critics lay blame on Sánchez, accusing him of accommodating Morocco. Reports indicate over 70,000 migrants crossed into Ceuta in July, with most returning to Morocco. Yet, a significant number remain, residing in tent encampments.

The national intelligence agency, CNI, had issued warnings prior to the mass migrant crossing. Documents reveal alerts sent to the Spanish government’s delegation in Ceuta, highlighting social media plans for an assault on the border. The notification detailed organized groups with substantial followings, illustrating the scale of the challenge.

This situation underscores the broader debate over Spain’s immigration policy and the geopolitical influences impacting national decisions.
