All Elite Wrestling (AEW) will present a noteworthy edition of “Dynamite” this Wednesday, aimed at raising awareness and support for pro wrestler Tanea Brooks, known professionally as Rebel. Brooks is facing a difficult battle against ALS. The event, titled “Rebel Heart,” is scheduled to take place at the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia.
AEW, along with the broader wrestling community, has rallied behind Brooks since she revealed her diagnosis in May. Efforts to support her have included promoting “Rebel Heart” T-shirts and participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to generate funds and awareness for the disease.
AEW and Ring of Honor (ROH) owner Tony Khan expressed heartfelt sentiments during an address in August after ROH’s Death Before Dishonor event in Philadelphia. He acknowledged Rebel’s longstanding contribution to AEW and highlighted the upcoming show’s noble purpose. “Rebel’s been a great friend to all of us and a great part of AEW from the very beginning,” he stated, underlining the emotional connection the AEW family feels towards Rebel.
Brooks publicly announced her diagnosis on May 1, sharing her struggle and expressing gratitude in a heartfelt video. “The doctors have diagnosed me with terminal ALS,” Brooks explained, detailing her challenges with movement and speech, and describing the progressive nature of ALS.
Brooks started her AEW journey in 2019, initially taking on roles behind the scenes as a stylist and later appearing on-screen in 2020. Her presence further expanded through her involvement with Britt Baker as the latter’s personal makeup artist. Brooks ventured into professional wrestling in 2013 with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), and her career included appearances with Ohio Valley Wrestling, Stardom, and WWE.
The “Rebel Heart” show will feature an exciting lineup, including a match between Will Ospreay and David Finlay for the AEW World Championship elimination, a tag team match with Darby Allin and Steven Borden against Mark Davis and Josh Alexander, the AEW World Trios Championship contest, and several other enthralling bouts.
Brooks is expected to appear alongside Britt Baker in a segment called “The Waiting Room.” Anticipated matchups will feature stars like Persephone, Hikaru Shida, and others.
