On August 25, 2026, renowned Chicago chef Todd Stein started a new chapter by opening Juniper in Highwood. Located at 200 Green Bay Road, Juniper merges a local touch with international influences. The restaurant offers a mix of classic American dishes and expertly crafted sushi. Customers can enjoy this diverse menu alongside craft cocktails, a wide range of wines, and a sake selection.
The restaurant’s design reflects Stein’s roots in the North Shore. Deep blue hues complement the wood accents, while a 35-foot mural illustrates a sunrise over Lake Michigan, evoking his childhood memories of Highland Park and Rosewood Beach visits.
“We want to create the opportunity for diners to have something they want to eat, serving varied tastes with a varied menu that encourages tasting and shared plates,” Stein said.
Juniper provides different dining settings, including a sleek main dining area, a private room, a secluded sushi bar, and an outdoor patio for milder weather. Stein’s over 30 years in the culinary industry, working with establishments like The Bristol and Ballyhoo Hospitality, enrich his latest venture.
The menu offers elevated American classics such as Filet Mignon Sliders, Mini Lobster Rolls, Ribeye Steak Frites, and Rotisserie Chicken. These dishes blend nostalgic flavors with modern techniques. An extensive sushi program, led by Executive Sushi Chef Akira Yang, features classic rolls, specialty sushi, and premium sashimi and nigiri.
“With Juniper, I wanted to create the kind of restaurant I always wished we had in the neighborhood, a place Iād like to hang out in; whether meeting friends for cocktails, stopping in for dinner on a weeknight or celebrating a special occasion, we want every guest to feel genuinely welcomed,” Stein said.
Stein and General Manager TJ Bachmeyer built Juniper on the foundation that genuine hospitality lies in making guests feel at home. Bachmeyer remarked on their seamless partnership, noting that everything aligned perfectly from the outset.
