At the Ballot Box: Lindell’s Reluctance to Concede
MyPillow founder Mike Lindell refuses to concede in Minnesota’s GOP gubernatorial primary against state House Speaker Lisa DeMuth, following Lindell’s defeat by about 11 percentage points, as reported by Decision Desk HQ.
Lindell, supported by President Trump, declared on his LindellTV network that he would only concede if all votes were counted. He stated, “There are 265,000 votes left to count. I’m down by 18,000 now. I’m not going to give up this race until the votes are counted.” This was despite Decision Desk HQ calling the race for DeMuth with only about 20 percent of the votes counted.
DeMuth will now face Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D) in the upcoming November elections to replace retiring Gov. Tim Walz (D). Lindell has stepped aside from his company, MyPillow, to concentrate on his campaign efforts, leaving his future endeavors uncertain.
Did Wisconsin Challenge the Democratic Socialist Movement?
The Democratic gubernatorial primary in Wisconsin ended with Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s victory over democratic socialist state Rep. Francesca Hong. Crowley, endorsed by Gov. Tony Evers, won by 3,000 votes, marking a disruption in the trend of socialists defeating moderate Democrats nationally.
Recent victories for progressive candidates included Abdul El-Sayed defeating moderate Rep. Haley Stevens (D) in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary, and Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan overcoming Rep. Angie Craig in the state’s Senate Democratic primary. The Democratic Socialists of America have seen victories in cities like New York City and Washington D.C.
Hong was backed by progressive figures but not by Sen. Bernie Sanders or Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who supported El-Sayed. Hong faced media criticism for a resurfaced social media post about canceling Thanksgiving.
South Carolina and Connecticut Races
In South Carolina, Trump-backed Sen. Darline Graham will face GOP Rep. Ralph Norman in a runoff. In Connecticut, Democrat Rep. John Larson lost to Luke Bronin in a primary race.
