INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Indiana Fever secured a decisive 106-92 win over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Kelsey Mitchell excelled, scoring 28 points, including 20 in the first half. Caitlin Clark contributed 22 points and 10 assists, leading the team to victory.
This victory marks Indiana’s seventh win in the last nine games. The Fever showed resilience and determination following a passionate pregame speech from coach Stephanie White, who addressed distractions overshadowing the WNBA.
The Fever’s efficient shooting was instrumental in their success, boasting a 59% field goal percentage and 79% from beyond the arc, establishing a commanding 64-46 halftime lead. New York, who had an impressive 8-1 record since their previous loss to Indiana in mid-July, struggled to match Indiana’s performance this time.
Mitchell’s shooting prowess was evident, hitting 11 out of 16 shots. Clark and Sophie Cunningham each scored four 3-pointers, contributing to Indiana’s total of 16 successful threes out of 25 attempts. Cunningham added 12 points, while Aliyah Boston delivered 19 points and seven rebounds.
Despite commendable efforts from Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, who both scored 19 points, the Liberty couldn’t overcome the Fever’s momentum. Jonquel Jones contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds. Indiana solidified their lead with a 15-7 run in the second quarter, pushing the score to 54-37.
Although the Liberty attempted a comeback when Indiana’s intensity waned in the third quarter, reducing their deficit to nine points, the Fever regained control. Key plays by Mitchell and Cunningham helped extend the lead to 87-67 by the end of the period.
Indiana maintained their advantage, ensuring the game didn’t narrow again, successfully securing their triumph over the Liberty.
