The U.S. State Department has announced that more than 175,000 visas have been revoked during President Donald Trump’s administration. This announcement comes as Trump is in his second term.
According to the State Department, visas revoked were linked to foreign nationals who violated visa terms, committed crimes, or posed threats to national security, among other offenses. Such actions are part of efforts to protect U.S. citizens and maintain national security.
The revocations largely resulted from law enforcement encounters involving criminal activities. Common offenses included assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug crimes. Other reasons for revocation included reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud, and embezzlement.
A foreign national charged with felony rape and sexual battery, including against a mentally disabled victim, had their visa revoked.
Another case involved a foreign national accused of felony kidnapping, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation of a minor.
The State Department also addressed the issue of birth tourism, indicating that a U.S. embassy in North Africa revoked over 100 visas. These visas had been issued to parents visiting primarily to give birth in the U.S., aiming for their children to gain U.S. citizenship.
The Trump administration, led by President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, remains committed to identifying and revoking visas of foreign nationals who threaten American safety. The State Department emphasized that a U.S. visa is a privilege, and it will continue to use all available resources to protect communities.
