Known for his unorthodox opinions, Piker, who refers to himself as Hasan The Hun, found the event removed, a decision reflecting concern over his rhetoric.
The university issued a statement that highlighted procedural updates to maintain event standards, emphasizing the need for elevated dialogue on divisive topics at a polarized time. This move aimed to prevent responsibility for any contentious remarks Piker might make, as his history includes making claims about 9/11 and comments on Israel and Stalin.
The university stated, “Going forward, procedures will be updated to ensure the standards we have for university-hosted events like the Speaker Series are met, particularly so that we can help elevate the level of dialogue on divisive topics during a polarized time in our country.”
Conservative groups, traditionally vocal against cancel culture, showed support for Piker’s right to speak, consistent with their stance on free speech. Even Turning Point USA, familiar with speaker cancellations, upheld his rights. Democrats and liberal media, however, previously presenting Piker as a notable voice, remained silent as he faced this setback.

Republicans, notably in Michigan’s race between El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers, continue to see potential in leveraging Piker’s divisive commentary, even as he recedes into the background.
