Adam Vinatieri, celebrated for winning four Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. During his speech, he humorously mentioned his former coach.
Vinatieri, who played under Bill Belichick from 2000 to 2005, delivered some of the most memorable field goals, helping the Patriots secure three Super Bowl victories. In his Hall of Fame address, he playfully touched on Belichick’s personal life.
“Thank you for demanding excellence every single day. Your preparation, discipline, and attention to detail shaped far more than my football career,” he said about Belichick. “Unfortunately, Bill couldn’t make it here today. There’s a lot going on at UNC right now,” Vinatieri joked.
He suggested Belichick might be on a recruiting trip, humorously noting that he might be judging his girlfriend’s cheerleading competition instead.
Despite the jokes, Vinatieri praised Belichick as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.
Jordon Hudson, central to Vinatieri’s joke, is acknowledged as an accomplished cheerleader. At 25, Hudson has achieved success both as a coach and competitor. She secured a world championship title in April, with Belichick present.
The relationship between Belichick and Hudson gained public attention when he assumed the role of head coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels before the 2025 season. Since then, their relationship has been widely discussed.
