A veteran Democratic attorney, Julian Epstein, expresses strong opposition to Michigan’s new Democratic Senate nominee, Abdul El-Sayed. Epstein, who once served as the chief legal counsel for House Democrats during the Clinton impeachment and later represented Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, voiced his support for Mike Rogers, the Republican opponent, in an op-ed published by The New York Post.
In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Epstein described his op-ed as a public declaration of his shift in support to the Republican candidate in this closely-contested Senate race. He stated, “The Democrats have gone off the deep end.” He criticized the current Democratic Party for not accommodating those who allegedly threaten the Constitution or align with radical ideologies or antisemitism.
Epstein criticized those focused only on wealth redistribution and not on building for the next generation. He emphasized the effectiveness of the free market as an anti-poverty tool. Epstein warned the Democratic Party that its present stance is leading it towards potential downfall, predicting a defection of a significant number of Democrats.
He has long criticized the party for being too left-leaning, suggesting it has lost its moral center. He praised Rogers as a “practical, middle-of-the-road” candidate, suggesting he would have aligned with the Democrats during the Clinton era. Following Abdul El-Sayed’s narrow primary victory over Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens, who campaigned on progressive views but was supportive of Israel, there is uncertainty about Stevens’ supporters endorsing El-Sayed in November.
In his op-ed, Epstein argued that Rogers could effectively criticize El-Sayed, accusing El-Sayed of prioritizing wealth redistribution and sympathizing with Mideastern terrorist groups. Epstein highlighted El-Sayed’s alleged views on Israel and support for controversial figures.
Epstein contends that figures like Hasan Piker, El-Sayed’s campaign surrogate, hold extreme views that cannot be overlooked. He urged that Democrats will need to address these extremes in the upcoming election.
