Celebrating Community: Highland Park’s End of Summer Bash

The ’10 Years of Smiles’ event, marking the tenth anniversary of Gilbert Orthodontics at The Shops on Elm Place in Highland Park, has expanded into a community celebration. Dr. Josh Gilbert, the practice owner, has invited neighboring businesses to join this celebration. A variety of businesses will offer activities and generous giveaways at the first End of Summer Party, scheduled for August 26, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at 585 Elm Place.

Dr. Gilbert, who took over the practice a decade ago, reflected on this milestone with appreciation for the supportive community. ‘I wanted to celebrate this achievement in a community that has embraced me and my office,’ Dr. Gilbert stated. His focus, alongside his team, is to make patients feel comfortable and well cared for. A native of Highland Park, Dr. Gilbert underlined his connection to the area.

Hosting the event, Dr. Gilbert mentioned, ‘We’re bringing in a DJ for dancing, a bounce house, and face-painting.’ Attendees can visit the Gilbert Orthodontics office for free digital scans to see current and potential dental outcomes. Prizes, such as teeth whitening, will also be raffled off.

BBQ Pit owner Gus Karigan expressed excitement about the event. The establishment will serve macaroni and cheese, pulled pork, and barbecued brisket sandwiches. ‘The BBQ Pit has been a staple for 48 years,’ Karigan said, adding that they have maintained success through repeat business and a friendly atmosphere where everyone knows each other’s name.

Josh Gordon, owner of The Custom Framer for six years, emphasized their focus on quality. ‘We’ll have art specials and activities for the kids, likely coloring,’ Gordon announced, praising the event for uniting businesses and the community.

Several other businesses in the mall will participate, offering a range of gifts and activities:

  • Joan Barry Hair Designers – Temporary hair color spray.
  • Love’s Yogurt – Sidewalk chalking activities.
  • My Sister’s Circus – Circus games and discounted shopping.
  • TREVI Longevity & Aesthetics Institute – Free B-12 shots, IV bags, and hydrating snacks.
  • Studio Lagree – Group class giveaways.
  • Eye Magic by Michael Scott – Vision testing through the Magnificent Eye Chart.
  • ABC Design Jewelers – Complimentary jewelry cleaning, ear piercing, and a children’s jewelry trunk show.

ABC Design Jewelers’ owner Anat Borochov, though newer to the mall, emphasized her experience in the diamond business. She will host an Adult After-Party from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gabby & Summer Classics, offering music, wine, and cheese to foster community connections. ‘The biggest joy is seeing people happy,’ Borochov concluded.
