During the dedication ceremony, Clinton sat directly behind Barack Obama as Michelle Obama praised her husband’s significant achievements. Clinton recalled the moment when Michelle highlighted Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize win. “Michelle Obama was giving an incredibly clever speech, touting Barack’s many accomplishments,” Clinton said.
“And then, of course, you received a Nobel Peace Prize,” Clinton remembered Michelle saying. “I burst into laughter. He started to giggle.”
Clinton said she then leaned forward and joked with the former president by saying, “Oh my God, I am sure Trump is watching this. He thinks he’s now in the third circle of hell.” Barack Obama’s simple response was, “Yeah, I hope he is.”

Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize Frustration
Trump has frequently expressed frustration over not winning a Nobel Peace Prize, pointing to his diplomatic and conflict-resolution efforts. He often compares his record with Obama’s, questioning the latter’s 2009 award. In a 2025 post on Truth Social, Trump claimed he would never receive it despite his efforts in international peace agreements.
He received nominations and public support from several notable figures, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and others. Representative Claudia Tenney of New York has cited Trump’s role in facilitating Middle Eastern peace agreements as a significant achievement warranting such recognition.
Following Nobel Prize winner María Corina Machado’s acknowledgment, the White House criticized the Nobel Committee for allegedly prioritizing politics over peace. Trump’s continued frustration was evident when Machado presented him with her Nobel medal during a White House visit, even though the Nobel Foundation clarified that such awards are non-transferrable.
In a display of lingering frustration, Trump mocked Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize win in a 2020 rally and in 2013 suggested the award be rescinded. Obama received his prize less than a year into his presidency, honored for efforts in international diplomacy, though critics believed it was premature.

Bush, Bill Clinton, as well as former first ladies Jill Biden, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton. Former Vice President Kamala Harris was also present.
Additionally, the event featured performances by celebrities like Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, John Legend, Marc Anthony, and Eddie Vedder. Trump did not attend the ceremony.
