Real Madrid has reached an agreement with Leipzig for the transfer of young international Ivorian striker Yan Diomande. The Spanish giant announced on Thursday that the 19-year-old forward will be part of the club for the next seven seasons.
Diomande had an impressive World Cup performance, attracting interest from several Premier League teams. Initially, Leipzig maintained that he was not for sale. Ivory Coast exited the World Cup in the round of 32, losing to Norway.
Diomande impressed us with his carefree attitude, eagerness to learn, and courage from day one, said Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer. He quickly established himself at the highest level with us, showcasing his speed, dribbling ability, and goal-scoring threat.
Schäfer also expressed pride that Diomande’s performances drew significant international attention. Reports indicated that Paris Saint-Germain was also interested in acquiring the young striker.
It remains unclear whether Diomande will initially join Madrid’s B team. Real Madrid’s first team underwent a renewal following a disappointing close to last season. Under the direction of José Mourinho, new signings include playmaker Bernardo Silva, central defender Ibrahima Konaté, right-back Denzel Dumfries, and left-back Marc Cucurella.
