Melania Trump’s Criticisms of Donald Trump’s Rally Style

President Donald Trump has shared insights into what first lady Melania Trump reportedly dislikes about his public appearances. Speaking to his supporters in Las Vegas, Trump mentioned Melania has criticized his rally dance moves and his imitation of weightlifters during speeches about transgender athletes, calling these moments unpresidential.

Trump recounted, “She hates it when I imitate men in women’s sports and when I do ‘the weightlifter,'” demonstrating the motion of lifting weights. He added, “She said it’s not presidential. I replied, ‘Well, it may not be presidential, but I won the election in a landslide.'”

This is not the first time Trump has talked about Melania’s disapproval of his theatrical displays. He previously mentioned she is not fond of his dancing or impressions, describing her as “a very classy person.”

Trump Says Melania Hates His Dancing

Trump’s dancing, particularly to the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” during rallies, has become a recognizable tradition. According to Trump, Melania believes these dance moves are not fitting for a president. Earlier, he mentioned Melania’s comment on whether former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom she considered “elegant,” would have danced similarly in public.

“She hates when I dance,” Trump stated during a speech to Republican lawmakers. “She actually said, ‘Can you imagine FDR dancing?'” He recalled a similar conversation at a 2023 event in California, where Melania told him his dancing was “not presidential.” Trump’s response was, “But people like it,” explaining that audiences encourage his dancing routinely.

Trump Says Melania Dislikes His Weightlifting Impression

Trump also shared that Melania is against a gesture he uses when discussing transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. During these speeches, Trump makes exaggerated hand movements to mimic a weightlifter, which Melania finds inappropriate for a president.

In January, he quoted Melania as saying, “Darling, please, the weightlifting is terrible.” Trump’s retort highlighted his presidential victory, “I said, ‘But I did become president.'”

During his 2023 California speech, Trump further described Melania’s feedback, where she had remarked, “It’s not presidential.” He also shared a story about her critique following an interview, saying she remarked, “You didn’t look good, too much light.”

Trump’s Rally Style as a Political Trademark

While Melania generally maintains a lower public profile and rarely discusses private conversations publicly, Trump portrays her as a significant influence on his image and presentation. Despite her criticisms, Trump continues with his rally traditions, arguing these moments are enjoyed and expected by his supporters.
