A couple from Florida, Leon Alejandro Jr. and Samantha Feliz, were taken into custody in North Carolina following a long investigation into their missing infant. Authorities accuse the couple of deceitfully claiming the child never existed.
The couple, both from Hollywood, Florida, fled to Rockingham, North Carolina. The pair were captured by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service and are held without bond as they await extradition to Florida.
Hollywood police launched their investigation in early 2025 after discovering that Feliz gave birth between December 2024 and January 2025, although not in a hospital setting.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the couple is facing multiple felony charges related to the infant’s disappearance.
Investigators noted that family members had witnessed the baby during the first month of life. Reportedly, the infant was last seen in a photograph dated January 5, 2025, appearing ill and malnourished. Despite searches with cadaver dogs, authorities have not recovered the child’s remains.
The couple allegedly told family that the baby was a prank, later suggesting the pregnancy was a hoax to extract money. However, photos showed Feliz pregnant, and text messages referred to the pregnancy. Investigators also found baby clothing, a positive pregnancy test, and blood-stained towels in a storage unit. DNA tests confirmed the blood belonged to a biological child of the couple.
The evidence led to charges of aggravated manslaughter, tampering with evidence, failure to report a death, and providing false information.
The arrests occurred on property owned by a relative of Alejandro. Richmond County Sheriff Mark Gulledge praised the collaboration between agencies in apprehending the couple.
