Berlin police shot and killed a suspect who they allege charged at officers with a knife during an arrest attempt. This incident occurred following a deadly attack during the city’s Pride festival.
The 21-year-old suspect was found in an allotment garden complex in the Spandau district around 6 p.m. local time. Authorities stated that he rushed at members of the city’s special police unit with a weapon, causing officers to open fire. Despite attempts at resuscitation by firefighters, he was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have accused the suspect of driving a vehicle into a crowd and attacking people with a bladed weapon near the Brandenburg Gate on Saturday night. This attack resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to 29 others. The suspect was identified as Abdul B., a 21-year-old who, according to officials, was involved with Islamist circles in Berlin.
