Sheriff’s detectives in Santa Clara County are looking into a shooting that took place during a large gathering in Morgan Hill on Saturday, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries, according to officials.
Deputies responded to reports of disturbances around 10:15 p.m. These involved intoxicated individuals in the street and someone throwing bottles at cars. Brooks Jarosz of the County of Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office provided these details in a statement.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a chaotic situation. Over 300 people were seen fleeing after shots had been fired. Several individuals sustained gunshot wounds and required medical attention. One victim was declared deceased at the location.
“This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable,” Sheriff Robert Jonsen stated. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries, and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event.”
The event, labeled as an “unsanctioned party,” was reportedly promoted via social media platforms.
