Caitlin Clark experienced a weekend to remember, starting with a meeting with former President Barack Obama and culminating in a strong performance at her first traditional All-Star Game. The days were packed with various sponsor events where fans eagerly awaited the chance to see the Indiana Fever star, many sporting her No. 22 jersey.
During an event at Wilson to introduce her new line of basketballs, Clark expressed her excitement about the busy weekend. ‘I never want to take for granted (All-Star weekend),’ she stated.
This event marked Clark’s first traditional All-Star Game appearance, a notable opportunity after missing the previous year’s game in Indianapolis due to an injury. Her rookie season in 2024 included a competitive game where the U.S. Olympic team faced the WNBA All-Stars. Many felt Clark deserved a spot on the Olympic team for Paris, adding tension to that match.
‘Any time you get to put on a uniform and play an All-Star Game is really special. It’s really a unique experience for myself as I never really got to play in a true All-Star Game (before),’ Clark said.
Clark started strong in Saturday’s game, engaging the record All-Star crowd of 19,783 at the United Center. She scored her team’s first eight points with an impressive steal for a layup, followed by one of her signature deep 3-pointers. Despite the 4-point spot’s removal—a spot used in the previous year’s game—Clark still enjoyed her team’s 129-122 victory, taking Obama’s advice to not lose the joy.
Reflecting on her meeting with Obama, Clark shared that her hands were sweaty and clammy during the encounter. She asked for a photo with him, a request she receives often.
Following her interaction with Obama, Clark’s day was filled with sponsor activities. At WNBA Live, a fan fest featuring exhibits from many league sponsors, she participated in a musical chairs shooting game at the State Farm exhibit, drawing hundreds of spectators. She cheered on girls in a similar contest, awarding the winner a pair of her shoes. Her itinerary also included a visit to a Nike girls basketball tournament to see her former AAU team, the Iowa Attack, followed by the launch of her new basketball line with Wilson.
For those few days, Clark immersed herself in basketball, setting aside the usual pressures she faces. Now, she returns to the routine as the Fever are set to play in Seattle on Tuesday.
