A former Democratic congressional candidate from Arizona, Brianna Westbrook, was arrested in connection with an alleged home invasion involving an ex-partner, according to court documents. The incident reportedly occurred on July 10, when Phoenix police received a call around 6 p.m. from a woman claiming that Westbrook entered her home uninvited.
Police documents state that the woman initially opened the door, thinking it was her son. Instead, she encountered Westbrook holding a knife and black tape. The confrontation escalated into a physical struggle, with Westbrook reportedly pushing the victim onto a couch and instructing her not to move, which prompted the victim to scream.
Westbrook, known for transgender rights activism and past vice-chair role in the Arizona Democratic Party, faced accusations from the victim’s sister, who witnessed a threatening gesture involving the knife. The victim pleaded with Westbrook, referencing the imminent return of her son, prompting Westbrook to flee the scene.
When police later located Westbrook, the suspect described the incident as a misunderstanding. Westbrook claimed the encounter was rooted in a consensual BDSM scene, which the victim categorically denied. According to Westbrook, the arrangement was allegedly communicated via subliminal messages on Instagram.
Court documents quote Westbrook asserting this interaction was part of a plan to ‘re-enact a scene’ aimed at helping the victim process past trauma. Despite Westbrook’s assertion of mutual consent, the victim reportedly rejected any such agreement on a BDSM scenario.
The police’s probable cause statement indicates that Westbrook believed the victim signaled readiness for the staged scene by using subliminal messaging. Westbrook admitted to arriving at the residence equipped with props, including what was described as a fake knife, to conduct the scene. However, the engagement was interrupted by the victim’s sister, prompting Westbrook to leave.
Facing legal charges, Westbrook has been accused of felony third-degree burglary and aggravated assault involving a simulated weapon, as well as misdemeanor disorderly conduct. The arrest report highlighted Westbrook’s history of domestic violence, noting a pattern of increasing frequency and intensity.
