Miguel Vargas Celebrates First All-Star Selection

Miguel Vargas faced challenging times in 2024. “At that time, I struggled to feel happy on the field,” he admitted Saturday afternoon. Now, as an All-Star third baseman, he appreciates the support from his team. “These guys helped me reach this point, and I am grateful to be part of this group,” Vargas stated.

Vargas will represent the Chicago White Sox on the American League roster at the All-Star Game on July 14 in Philadelphia. On Saturday evening, the rosters were announced. “It’s rewarding to see hard work pay off,” Vargas commented. “I believe more than one of us deserved this recognition, but I am proud to represent my team.” Vargas is the first Sox third baseman selected since Joe Crede in 2008.

Manager Will Venable expressed his happiness for Vargas. “You can’t have favorites, but I’m a big fan of Vargy,” Venable remarked. “He embodies what our club is about both on and off the field.” Entering Saturday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, Vargas had a .248/.359/.495 hitting line, with 20 home runs and 55 RBIs in 86 games. His 3.2 fWAR ranked 18th in MLB.

Reflecting on past difficulties, Vargas mentioned, “A couple of years ago, I faced tough moments. It means a lot to see how far I’ve come.” After joining the Sox in 2024 from the Los Angeles Dodgers, he hit .104 in 42 games. Improved last season, he hit .234 with 16 home runs in 138 games. This year, Vargas leads major-league third basemen in runs, walks, and ranks high in other statistics.

“We saw some promising stretches in 2025,” said Venable. “Vargas worked hard in the offseason, enhancing his swing and body. He’s now consistent in his performance.” Venable also expressed disappointment over the Sox having one representative in the All-Star roster. “I’m honestly upset,” he said. “Other players on this team deserve recognition as well.”

Venable praised Vargas as “a special guy” with a unique competitive spirit. Vargas celebrated this milestone, appreciating support from teammates, the front office, and fans. “This moment is significant for my family too, and I want to share it with them,” he concluded.
