President Trump marked the 250th anniversary of July 4th with a patriotic speech at Mount Rushmore. He emphasized American culture and warned against a possible revival of communist ideologies.
The address took place against the iconic backdrop of the granite carvings of four former presidents. Trump stated that American identity faces threats from communist ideals. He criticized what he termed ‘radicals’ who he believes are attacking America’s historical values.
There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land, including from newcomers to our country who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life and our great success, the president said. You can be a communist, or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both.
Speaking to the audience in South Dakota, Trump added,You do not have to be born here, but you do have to love what we have built, you must love our country.
He connected these sentiments to the upcoming midterm elections.
Trump suggested the abolition of the filibuster to help pass the SAVE America Act. The act would require proof of citizenship for voter registration and valid photo ID for voting. He stressed the importance of these measures to ensure Republican success in the elections.
As we march into our 250th year, incredible, beautiful year it will be, we must never forget: There is no American freedom without American culture, and there is no American founding without the American people,Trump said.
Describing American culture, Trump noted Americans’ love for freedom, independence, and their historic legacy. He added that Americans do not need permission to speak freely, live according to their beliefs, worship as they choose, or bear arms.
In an unrelated announcement, Trump pardoned six individuals accused of pollution violations, claiming they were simply fixing their cars.
