Authorities Rescue 16 Children from Ohio Home

In Hamden, Ohio, authorities have rescued 16 children from a rural home where they were confined to a single room. The children lived in severe neglect for much of the past four years.

The dramatic rescue took place on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. It involved the arrest of four adults connected to the situation. Images from the scene show debris scattered across the front lawn of the dilapidated home. Inside, police found further evidence of the squalid conditions.

Photographic evidence provided by AP photo editors offers a glimpse into the realities faced by the children. One image shows debris inside the home. Other photos highlight the chaotic environment, with items like a gas can and a high chair visible amid clutter.

Four adults have been taken into custody by law enforcement. The Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail identified them as Gary Siders Sr., Christine Siders, Elizabeth Siders, and Gary Siders Jr.

The exterior of the home is surrounded by police tape, which encloses items like benches and pet food containers on the porch. A cat is pictured peeking through a side door opening, capturing the barren atmosphere of the property.

Additional images from the site show the disturbed state of the house. One photograph captures a broken window with a hanging light fixture inside. Police tape extends throughout, highlighting the ongoing investigation and the conditions in which the children were found.
