Bald Meet-Up in Washington Square Park Promotes Empowerment

A recent event in Washington Square Park, Manhattan, brought together approximately 100 individuals, both men and women, to embrace their baldness with pride. This ‘Bald Meet-Up’ offered a unique space for attendees to unite and reject the stigma often associated with being bald.

Many participants had spent years feeling compelled to hide their baldness. However, on this rainy Saturday, they left their hats at home and came together to celebrate baldness. The gathering featured chants of ‘Bald is beautiful!’ and ‘Bald! Bald! Bald!’, led by Phil Myers, a comedian who introduced himself confidently to the crowd.

Justin Bradford, a freelance video producer and the event’s organizer, offered custom ‘I Love New York’ T-shirts, where the typical heart symbol was replaced with an image of a bald head. Bradford, 31, shared his experiences, explaining that baldness is sometimes incorrectly seen as unfortunate. He emphasized the strength of community found at such gatherings.

The event provided a sense of affirmation and solidarity, as individuals who once felt isolated bonded over shared experiences. Participants expressed relief at finding a welcoming community they previously thought was out of reach.
