Washington’s Reflecting Pool Faces Issues After Renovation

Washington’s Reflecting Pool is facing issues following its renovation, with peeling paint and algae blooms. President Donald Trump has claimed vandalism is to blame for the problems.

On social media, Trump alleged that someone intentionally damaged the Reflecting Pool. He stated, “We’ve had some real problems with vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool.” He did not provide detailed evidence. Agencies responsible for the National Mall’s maintenance did not immediately comment.

Witnesses observed National Park Service employees using vacuums to clean the pool. The Washington Post reported an arrest connected to paint peeling. However, this does not explain the algae and loose paint. Trump has voiced concerns about possible sabotage involving chemicals similar to those used on the National Mall.

Recently, discolored grass on the National Mall displayed the numbers “86 47,” which authorities are investigating as a potential threat to Trump. The term “86” can imply removal. During cleaning efforts, vacuum line water is transported to nearby drains.

Oklahoma City Police Department officers assisted with law enforcement during events around the U.S. 250th anniversary. They patrolled areas of paint peeling in the pool. Trump’s remarks followed negative coverage of the pool’s condition.

The renovation cost over $14 million in preparation for America 250 celebrations. Despite efforts to paint the pool bottom “American flag blue,” algae returned the water to green. Federal workers attempted to eliminate algae using chemicals. Now, sections of the blue paint have detached, revealing the pool’s rocky surface.
