Toronto Marlies Clinch Calder Cup Victory Against Chicago Wolves

The Toronto Marlies claimed the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup by defeating the Chicago Wolves 4-3 in Game 5. Vinni Lettieri’s power-play goal in the second period proved decisive for the Marlies, who serve as the NHL’s Maple Leafs’ main affiliate.

In addition to Lettieri’s key score, Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Jacob Quillan added to Toronto’s tally in the second period. Earlier, the Wolves held an advantage, but a late first-period goal from Landon Sim cut their lead to 2-1.

Artur Akhtyamov shone for the Marlies as he made 27 saves, earning the title of playoff MVP. His performance included a 15-7 record, a 2.22 goals-against average, and a .923 save percentage in the postseason. This marks the Marlies’ second Calder Cup win, their first being in 2018.

On the Chicago side, Felix Unger Sörum delivered two goals and an assist, showing skill and determination. Josiah Slavin contributed a goal, while Cayden Primeau was in the net, stopping 19 shots. Although the Wolves had previously staved off elimination with a 4-3 overtime win, they were unable to overcome the Marlies in the final game.
