Police have commenced a death investigation after responding to a fire on the city’s Near South Side, where they found a man shot in the head. Officers arrived at a fire in the 1300 block of South Wabash Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. Upon entering a building, they discovered a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head, as reported by Chicago police.
The injured man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He suffered a gunshot wound, a neck laceration, and inhaled smoke. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead later at the hospital. Authorities have scheduled an autopsy for Thursday to determine further details. Police recovered a weapon at the scene, yet they have not released any information about potential suspects.
