Police Shoot Armed Suspect in Uptown Neighborhood Incident

An armed suspect fatally wounded a 63-year-old man in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood Monday night. The suspect was later shot by police after pointing a weapon at them during a pursuit, according to Chicago police.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m., officers on patrol responded to a call about shots fired in Uptown. Preliminary investigations showed the victim was involved in an argument with a known individual. During the dispute, the individual drew a weapon and shot the 63-year-old man multiple times. The victim was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center but was pronounced dead.

After the shooting, the suspect fled north on the 4800 block of Clark Street, leading to a foot chase. When officers caught up with the suspect on Argyle Street, he aimed his weapon at them. The officers then fired at the suspect, who was subsequently provided with medical assistance at the scene. The suspect was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he is in critical condition.

Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene. Additionally, three officers underwent observation at a local hospital following the incident. The Chicago police Investigative Response Team and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability have been informed. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative duty for at least 30 days.
