Vance Talks Future Plans and Reflects on Past Remarks

Vice President JD Vance has sparked conversations about the 2028 presidential race by suggesting former President Donald Trump might support his future political ventures. Vance and his wife plan to make decisions after the mid-term elections, fueling talk about who will lead the America First movement post-Trump.

Vance addresses his past remarks in his book “Communion.” He revisited the controversial “childless cat ladies” comment from his 2021 Senate campaign, labeling it one of the “dumbest” things he said. During a Tucker Carlson appearance, Vance criticized the influence of certain Democratic figures, calling them “childless cat ladies without a stake in the country.” These figures included then-Vice President Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg, who had announced plans to adopt children.

Harris, with two adult stepchildren, and Buttigieg, who later became a parent, were central to Vance’s critique. He admitted his framing was provocative and distracted from his message about societal hostility towards having children. Vance noted he could have addressed the issue with more understanding, acknowledging many Americans are childless for various reasons.

Vance became a U.S. Senator in 2022 and assumed the Vice Presidency in 2025, after Trump selected him as his running mate. He reflected on how his remarks failed to respect the dignity of all individuals, as emphasized by his Catholic beliefs.
