In Midland, Texas, an active shooting has resulted in at least one fatality, with multiple injuries reported. The suspect has barricaded himself inside a downtown building, as stated by Mayor Lori Blong during a press conference on Friday.
Mayor Blong revealed that the incident involved a total of 11 victims. Police have set up a secure perimeter and are urging residents to steer clear of the affected area. Details on the shooter’s identity remain unconfirmed, but it is noted that the individual is ‘contained.’
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is involved in the response, deploying agents from its Midland satellite office to assist local authorities, according to information provided to Fox News Digital. The incident originated in southeast Midland and extended to south Midland. Law enforcement was first alerted and dispatched to the scene at 8:03 a.m. local time.
Midland Memorial Hospital has taken in nine of those injured during the incident. Four of these patients are currently undergoing surgery, while five have been deemed stable. The hospital’s main campus was placed on lockdown for nearly two hours following the shooting, though the emergency department remains under lockdown measures.
